While your girl probably has her favorite clothes, it is necessary to clean out their closets and drawers every few months because children are notorious for outgrowing things quickly and tossing them back in the drawer. This can become problematic for girls when it is time for them to get dressed, because they must weed through all the clothing that doesn’t fit to find the right options. Many times, girls tend to wear the same things over and over because they are on top and easy to find.
There are many general lists out there to help you plan your daughter’s yearly wardrobe, but remember that the list may not fit your daughter’s specific needs.
The General Clothing List
For girls aged seven to 14, they should have about four pairs of jeans or other pants, four pairs of shorts, up to nine shirts appropriate for school and the same amount of shirts for summer.
For dressy occasions, one or two dress pants, approximately three dress shirts and one or two dresses are usually enough. If your daughter prefers skirts to dresses or shorts, then you may want to have one or two really dressy skirts and up to four pairs of casual skirts on hand.
Two or three pajama sets are also needed, along with socks, underwear and training bras, when necessary.
As most households do laundry once or twice a week, this list should be appropriate and your child should have everything they need. However, many households launder outside every two weeks instead of every week. If your household is like that, you may need to double the amount of clothes listed so your child has enough to last for two whole weeks.
Adding Clothes
While the list above may not seem like enough, remember that girls usually have two or three favorites of everything and wear nothing else. If your daughter believes she needs more outfits or separates, you may find yourself rushing to get them, but it may be beneficial to hold off. If your daughter still eyes the same item at the store or goes online frequently to a specific clothing site and truly wants the piece, you may consider purchasing it, offer to get it as a present, or ask her to put some of her own money toward the item so that she will appreciate it more.
Young girls clothing is usually very cute, but it may not be wise to rush out and buy everything she thinks she wants. Instead, visit Butterflies & Zebras for some quality, must-have pieces.
