All girls need clothing, but many times, something looks great online or on the rack and they get it home and never want to wear it. While this does happen with boys too, mainly it is that girls want fashionable, trendy items that will make them fit in at school or other activities. Often they purchase items that don’t fit them well or don’t feel comfortable to them. Therefore, it is time to start finding clothing that your girls will wear and enjoy.
Four Piles Rule
The first step is to clean out your daughter’s closet with her help. Take every single thing out of the closet, including accessories. Make four piles that are throw out, repair, give away and keep. If the clothing has tears, holes or looked ragged, it goes in the throw out pile, even if it is a favorite. For items in the repair pile, they still fit and are comfortable, but needs to be re-hemmed or it is missing buttons. This item should be kept unless you or your daughter will never get around to fixing the problem, then it should be in the give away or throw out pile.
The give away pile is for clothing that still looks good, but doesn’t fit your daughter anymore and the keep pile is for clothes that still fits well and that will be worn.
List
After getting rid of all the clothing that is torn or doesn’t fit, girls will need to make a list for all the items of clothing they still need for the year or season. Basics are extremely important, such as tee shirts and tank tops. However, she will also want to focus on long-sleeved items, shorts, jeans and even dresses. Most young girls have at least five pairs each of jeans and shorts, two or three skirts and one or two dresses, depending on their style. This allows for washing once or twice a week, so if you cannot or do not do laundry but every other week, your daughter may need more, depending on how she wears her clothes.
Shop
Once you are shopping, either online or in the store, go to a specific section, such as shirts, and scroll through the options. If nothing pops out at her or makes her stop, it probably won’t be worn. Consider quality clothing instead of the cheap alternatives, because quality clothes will last longer through many wears and washes.
Clothing for girls can be hard to find, but it can be even harder when your daughter doesn’t wear anything because she doesn’t like it. Consider Butterflies & Zebras for quality clothes with great style.
