Regular eye exams are important to eye health and vision. A visit to the optometrist is nothing to fret about. An Eye Exam Murrieta generally consists of several diagnostic tests as well as a vision test.
Upon arrival for the appointment, the patient will be asked to fill out the general paperwork to determine the patient’s medical history and insurance information. The reason for the medical history is that some illnesses can affect vision. It is also important to note eye conditions that may be hereditary. Visual Acuity Exam
The visual acuity test is something the patient has more than likely been exposed to before. The patient is requested to look at a chart with lines if letters at varying sizes. The patient is asked to read the smallest line possible. This will help determine how close to normal the vision is.
The Retinoscopy
Generally done early in the Eye Exam Murrieta, the retinoscopy is where the doctor shines a light in the eye to determine the light refraction in the eye. This helps the doctor determine the approximate prescription.
The Glaucoma Test
This is where a light will shine in the eye and the techniian will puff a burst of air into the eye. This helps determine if the eye has high pressure or not.
Cover Test
The cover test is where the doctor will have the patient focus on an image or object in the room. They will then alternately cover each eye to see how well the eyes work together.
Refraction Test
The refraction test is the test that will determine the final prescription to correct any vision deficiencies. The optometrist will flip lenses over the eyes and ask which lens makes it clearer. This test will determine whether the patient suffers from astigmatism, nearsightedness or farsightedness.
After the exam is completed, the patient will be able to choose from the wide variety of lenses or contacts to correct their vision.
