Did you know that disability eligibility means family benefits too? Family members of disability recipients may be eligible for payments of up to half the amount the recipient gets. If you’re receiving disability, here are three of your family members who may also qualify for benefits.
Spouse or Divorced Spouse
Your current or former spouse may be entitled to benefits if you receive disability payments. A former spouse may be eligible if they are caring for your child under the age of 16 or an adult disabled child who was disabled before the age of 22, or someone who was married to you for at least ten years and is currently unmarried.
Minor Children
Disability eligibility means family benefits too, and that includes the youngest members of your household. Minor children under the age of 18 may be eligible for benefits that can be used for their daily expenses like food, clothing, activities, and school fees.
Adult Disabled Children
Children don’t have to be minors to receive family disability benefits. If you have an adult disabled child who became disabled before the age of 22, your child may be eligible. Adult children must be unmarried to receive these benefits.
